AWARENESS AND EXPOSURE VISITS:

EXPOSURE VISIT OF MANIABANDHA WEAVERS TO POCHAMPALLY HANDLOOM CLUSTER

Background: The entire weaver population in Maniabandha Cluster is famous for its intricate Tie-dye saris popularly known as Maniabandhi sari and khandua pata.Main products include cotton and silk varieties. The cluster includes crafty tie-dyers ,MW and traders.Though the weavers are skilled with the art of tie-dye and its weaving, what is missing is the foray into modern and trendy products like other utility items, new colour combinations, use of geometrical and simple but attractive designs which has greater marketing potential away from the local market and can get them more attractive prices for their products. So it was decided to take them to a place like pochampally where the weavers produce similar tie-dye products but with a high degree of diversification.

 Objective of the Visit:

  • To see the use of machines in preloom processes.
  • High degree of specialisation in the cluster where different set of people are engaged in different processes.

  • To see the different uses of lattice dobby in the cluster and the various border designs it can create.
